Night shots are definitely tricky, and sometimes downright impossible without a tripod. All of these photos are then automatically combined and optimized into a single, (hopefully) well-exposed photo that looks like you took a long-exposure night shot. Stabilisation helps at night, but it also helps during the day when you are taking telephoto shots.

We were quite close to the show and had to protect ourselves and our equipment from falling debris. And yes, there is a bit of noise in these photos, but the end results are more than passable when printed on a high-quality printer. Dark Frame Subtraction: Many D-SLRs have a setting where the camera takes a second exposure of equal length with the shutter closed and subtracts any hot pixels from the first frame automatically.
